Danny and I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and
a healthy, joyful and prosperous New Year.
Christmas comes but once a year yet it feels like Christmas everyday
when you are enjoying life to the fullest with the one that you love.
The new
year of 2012 found us celebrating quietly with friends in Barranquilla,
Colombia on a Peace Corps assignment. Danny was a contract staff member
teaching the Colombian Peace Corps Spanish teachers new and updated teaching
methods. I was working in a small inland community that had been inundated by
major flooding, as a post disaster advisor. We enjoyed Colombia but soon found
ourselves heading back to the US.
Re-integrating
into North American culture took more time and effort than we had anticipated
and while we made our home (RV – carrocasa) roadworthy, we visited family and
friends. We put a few miles on our car during this time as we wandered around
the country.
Soon it was
time to head over to Europe with our granddaughter, Brooke. We had a
fun-filled, fast paced time during which we visited London, Brugge, Brussels,
Paris and the south of France. We rode planes, trains, buses and bicycles. We
visited sights that had only been a dream before and visited with good friends,
Gary and Peggy while in Paris. Brooke was a very good sport, trying everything
and anything, and taking lots of photos.
We spent a
great deal of time exploring the states surrounding Texas. It was hot, so very
hot during the summer and I didn’t venture outdoors much. During this time I
was able to indulge in my crafts and art, giving me much satisfaction and
allowed me time for planning more projects. Danny meanwhile, was out hiking and
bicycling.
In
September we attended a RV rally where we were able to take some of the
necessary classes to become a Red Cross Disaster Response team member. As we were in the neighbourhood, we
then rode the Katy Trail in Missouri.
Soon it was
time to put our home-on-wheels back in storage and we winged off to Mexico. We
toured the wonderful colonial cities of Central Mexico, Morelia, Guanajuato,
Zacatecas, and Querétaro. We were so fortunate to arrive on the festival, Day
of the Dead, the second biggest festival in Mexico, after Semana Santa. This
also gave me some wonderful ideas for a wall-hanger.
No sooner
were we back in the USA and it was time to head out to visit Canada. We changed
clothes in the suitcase, added a few items in the car and started to drive.
Thanksgiving in Tulsa, OK with Alf and Stacey, then on north to International
Falls, Minnesota. Danny had always wanted t visit here because of Rocky and
Bullwinkle fame, Frostbite Falls. Crossing the border and hanging a left, we
headed for Edmonton, with a quick stopover to visit the Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg.
Then on to Edmonton, slipping and sliding while enjoying the snowy, windy
landscape. From Edmonton we will continue our circle tour by heading south to
Yuma, AZ and then hanging another left and back to Texas for Christmas with
Jamie and the family.
We leave
this wonderful year, anticipating the new adventures coming our way in 2013. We
wish each and everyone all the joy and cheer of the holiday season and a
joyful, healthy and prosperous 2013.
Merry Christmas
Abrazos
Danny & Shirley
